Par 5. Two-shot lead. 238 yards over water to a back pin, into a breeze. The smart play was a wedge to 100 and a routine two-putt. We all know the smart play. We stood there anyway, pulled 3-wood, and put it in the water — then put the next one in the water too, because after the first one it stopped being golf and started being pride.

Walking off that green, the honest thought wasn't I should have laid up. It was: I would do it again. That's the part nobody designs for. Every piece of golf instruction tells amateurs to play smaller. Almost none of it acknowledges that the reason we're out there at all is the shot we have no business hitting.

EgoBeast started as a joke between two players who kept losing the same way. It turned into something else when we realized everyone in the group lost differently — one attacked everything, one ground out pars and never made a move, one believed in shots he hadn't earned, one only woke up with money on the line. Four golfers, four failure modes, one round.

So we built the thing we wanted: a set of covers that says something from the back of a bag, apparel that doesn't shout, and an identity system that tells you which golfer you actually are instead of which one you claim to be.

We're not a heritage brand and we're not pretending to be. Drop 001 is the first collection, 25 numbered Founder IDs, and a small group of people who'd rather be honest about the beast than keep laying up and lying about it.
